Nelson Tasman Region Scenic Flight

From Motueka, we take you around Golden Bay, Kahurangi, and Abel Tasman Park and back again. From lift-off, we follow the coast up to Harwoods Hole, the deepest natural hole in the southern hemisphere, and then on to Caanan Downs (where Peter Jackson filmed parts of his movies The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.)

Flying over the overdramatic forested karst landscape at Takaka, you also view Te Waikoropupu Springs (the second clearest natural springs in the world). From here we fly along the coast of Golden Bay to Separation Point and the Abel Tasman National Park.

We then head to Awaroa, fly along the golden beaches of Abel Tasman National Park and cruise past Split Apple Rock and one of the world’s five most beautiful beaches – Kaiteriteri Beach. Heading south back to Motueka, you will be sighing again at idyllic views of offshore islands, brilliant blue coastal waters and inlets, and golden sand beaches.

The highlights of this tour are many, showing as it does the awesome natural diversity of the Nelson Tasman region. Add to that the thrill of flying up to the northernmost tip of the South Island, above New Zealand’s longest sand spit, Farewell Spit. There are many fascinating places we point out on this trip, like the extraordinary mountain wilderness of our Kahurangi National Park, the Westhaven Inlet marine and wildlife reserve, Anatoki Salmon Farm and beautiful Pupu Springs.

You won’t miss any spectacular views because your pilot and tour guide knows this area best. You will return having experienced the real spirit of the Abel Tasman.
