Claire has recently joined Nelson Tasman Air as a fixed wing pilot. She was attracted to the locally operated business because of their community values and their commitment to work alongside other local businesses, with the common goal of adequately showcasing what this incredible region has to offer both visitors and locals.
Claire moved to Nelson 5 years ago where she became enchanted with the landscape, climate and the people. She grew up with the ‘aviation itch’; her father was a private pilot and he took her flying when she was young. After being charmed by the region, Claire decided it was the perfect place to learn to fly. She did a lot of her training locally and subsequently, has developed good knowledge of the area. Claire was also awarded a leadership scholarship from Metservice and Aviation New Zealand, which further fuelled her ambitions to bring an excellent attitude to the industry.
When not flying, Claire is an enthusiastic mountain biker, rock climber and hiker. Boasting a degree in Ecology and having been previously employed by DOC, she has a good understanding of New Zealand’s native flora and fauna and will excitedly chat with you about the regions’ stellar walking and biking tracks.
It is sensational to experience flight in a small plane, to see the thrill in others makes me feel like it is my first time all over again.
